Colonic Irrigation Therapy

I am a great supporter of Hydrocolon therapy. This is one of the best ways to detox your system and get rid of unwanted matter. With less waste to process, you are increasing the amount of absorbed nutrients and supporting your lymphatic system and immune system to function at its best.
There are a few systems of Hydrocolon therapy:

  • enema
  • traditional colonic, gravity system - closed system
  • traditional colonic, pressure system - closed system
  • AOW - Angel of Water hydrotherapy - open system

ENEMA:
also known as clyster, is a fluid injected into the lower bowel by way of the rectum. The most frequent use of an enema is to relieve constipation or for bowel cleansing before a medical examination or "procedure".

GRAVITY – CLOSED SYSTEM:
is the original method of colon therapy which provides a gentle flow of water via natural gravity from a tank suspended about 3 feet above the body. A lubricated speculum about one inch in diameter is inserted 3.5 inches into the rectum. It contains two tubes – a water line and a waste tube. The water line within the speculum administers a controlled flow (about 1psi of “natural” water pressure) of warm filtered water into the anus and colon. The speculum’s waste tube allows the waste-filled water to flow from the body via a clear viewing tube. The patient does not need to physically push out the waste. The waste is entirely closed off from the air — so that is why the process is known as a closed colonic system. The therapist stays with you throughout the treatment giving frequent abdominal massage to help the water go higher into the colon.

PRESSURE – CLOSED SYSTEM
consists of a control box which is usually located near the end of a padded treatment table. The box contains water temperature and pressure controls, an in and out control valve, a lighted viewing tube to observe the waste, and various meters and gauges for the therapist to monitor the treatment. The therapist has control of the filling and releasing of water, so you have less control of the treatment. Too much pressure can cause cramping. Some patients require a more vigorous treatment than gentle gravity to dislodge the waste.

ANGEL OF WATER - OPEN SYSTEM:
refers to the way the waste and water are eliminated from the body. The individual self-inserts a sterile, disposable, pencil-sized rectal nozzle  1-1.5 inches into the anal opening.  Laying comfortably on the back and covered up the entire time, the client turns the water on and is able to adjust the rate of the water flow.  When the sensation to eliminate occurs, the client initiates the release by bearing down just like they would on the toilet.  The waste and water eliminates out around the nozzle, not into it and the sphincter muscle allows for the elimination. The drain plumbing is clear so you can look down to see what has been discharged from your colon. The process continues until the client feels evacuated and is running clear, approximately 30 to 50 minutes. The water used in the Open method is gravity fed, so it is very gentle. The therapist will check on you from time to time, and may massage your belly to help move the water around and dislodge the waste, and adjust the water temperature warmer and cooler to cause the bowels to move.

COMPARISON OF OPEN AND CLOSED SYSTEMS:

  •  The actual size of the insert tube/speculum and how far it has to be inserted has to be considered
  •  The open system rebuilds the peristalsis of the muscle which will help patients go on their own. The closed system does not rebuild the peristalsis in the muscle so it eventually breaks down the muscle and can cause leaky gut along with other issues.
  •  If the patient is severely constipated the hard waste will not pass through the nozzle of the closed system so the patient must get off the table go to the restroom relieve themselves then get back on the table have the nozzle reinserted and start the process over again which can occur several times during the session. The open system nozzle is small and only inserts water into the rectum so once the muscle contracts and the patient has to release they are free to do so and the nozzle is so small the waste passes by the nozzle and evacuates the body. With the open system the patient never has to jump off the table nor has to endure the discomfort of having the nozzle removed and inserted several times throughout the session.
  •  With the open system, if the patient needs a privacy they may ask the therapist to leave them alone and are able to still have an effective session.
  •  Patients have confirmed more waste is removed with the open system vs the closed system.
  • There is a risk for perforation in the colon using the closed system nozzle or causing injury as you cannot see what’s in the colon and if the patient has polyps or internal hemorrhoids.

Colonic systems help relieve patients of constipation, irritable bowel syndrome and excessive gas. It also often relieves allergies, chronic fatigue, insomnia, headaches, skin disorders and anxiety. The process jumpstarts the body’s gastrointestinal tract and boosts the immune system.
