Homeopathy and Mental Wellness

Image
What is “Wellness” Wellness is a product of all body and mind systems. It is a state of balance or homeostasis. Whenever one area is out of balance for any reason, it affects the balance of the totality. Usually other systems rally to the rescue in whatever way they can, in order to offset serious consequences. If we think of ourselves as one unified whole comprised of biomes such as brain, gut and lung and a multiplex of systems such as circulatory, respiratory, immune, digestive, excretory, reproductive, musculoskeletal, socio-emotional, we can see that we are a complex set of variables which need constant attention in order to stay balanced enough for us to function in life. What is “Illness”                                              What is illness? It is dis-ease… a state wherein our “unified whole” becomes fragmented and sends us messages telling us to notic...

Root Canals Demystified

Image
The health of your mouth can be directly linked to total body health.  Studies have shown that there is a link between gum disease and serious chronic health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, respiratory disease and cancer.   What is a root canal? In very simple terms, when a tooth has some kind of damage, large decay or disease, it can still be saved by drilling out the pulp and nerve in the root of the tooth, cleaning and shaping the inside of the root canal, filling and sealing the space, and then capping it with a crown to protect and restore the tooth to its original function. There are three stages in root canal treatment: Stage 1: involves removal of the dead nerve and the gross infection. An antibiotic medication is left in the canal to help reduce the bacteria. The symptoms usually subside after this.  Stage 2: this involves further cleaning and shaping of the canals. Certain medications are used to flush out the debris and create a steril...

Parasites - Part 2

Image
Are you freaked out by the idea that you may have parasites? Well, you are not alone! Globally, due to intestinal parasitic infections, 3.5 billion people are affected; 450 million are symptomatic, and yearly more than 200,000 deaths are reported ( 1 ). That is such a foreign idea to North Americans because we think our way of living is so clean that we don’t even consider parasites when trying to unlock reasons why we don’t feel our best. For the same reason health professionals are not looking there either. Take, for instance, a patient who was diagnosed with a brain tumour only to find during surgery that it was not a tumour at all. It was a huge nest of parasites! During the life cycle process, it is possible for parasites to travel to the liver, brain and lungs. For example, in multiple studies of autopsied brains of people who died from Multiple Sclerosis, parasitic worms/nematodes were found in 100% of the cerebrospinal fluid samples!( 2 ) What are some of the symptoms of par...

Parasites - Part 1

Image
What are parasites? The word “parasite” was first used in English in 1539. It comes from the Medieval French word parasite and from the Latin parasites and greek parasitos “one who eats at the table of another”. A parasite is an organism that lives on or in a host organism and gets its food from or at the expense of its host. Are parasites something new? People have known about parasites such as roundworms and tapeworms since ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. In 1668, Francesco Redi was the first to recognize and correctly describe details of about 180 internal and external parasites including sheep liver fluke and ticks. Up until the end of the 1950’s it was commonplace to give children “worm powder" to clear their body from parasites. How do humans get parasites? Parasite infections are an insidious and underestimated health problem, affecting millions of people worldwide. In fac...
